Eduard E. Vasilevskis, M.D., M.P.H. is a staff physician with the Tennessee Valley VA Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Care Center, and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Public Health – Section of Hospital Medicine, the Center for Health Services Research and the Center for Quality Aging. He earned his medical degree at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon, and completed residency and chief residency at the University of California, San Francisco. This was followed by a health services research fellowship at the Institute for Health Policy Studies and the Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Vasilevskis’ research focuses on improving the care of older hospitalized patients. This includes work examining hospital delirium, care transitions to post-acute care, as well the role of deprescribing to address the epidemic of polypharmacy. He has developed and validated hospital measures and quality improvement strategies to address delirium. His most recent work includes efforts to improve the transition from the hospital to post-acute care settings, including the role of medication management and deprescribing. Dr. Vasilevskis works with Vanderbilt’s Critical Illness, Brain Dysfunction, and Survivorship Center, the Center for Quality Aging, and the VA Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) to achieve these aims.

Dr. Vasilevskis additionally leads the Section of Hospital Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which includes over 100 hospitalist physicians and advanced practice providers that provide care across three hospitals (VUMC, VA, Stallworth Rehab). In addition to general medical hospital care, the Section of Hospital Medicine includes the following clinical services: Resident Teaching Services, Consultative Medicine, Procedure Service, Comprehensive Care Delivery Service (Vanderbilt Interprofessional Care Program), Observation Unit Service, Nighttime Admitter and Crossover Services, Post-Acute Care Rehab Service, Co-management Services, Physician Utilization Management Adviser Services, The Section additionally includes numerous physician-scientist faculty and clinician educators at the forefront of clinical research, clinical leadership, and education.
