Eduard Batlle's laboratory conducts basic research in two areas of great clinical relevance; the relationship between colon cancer and intestinal stem cells and the development of metastatic disease. Throughout his career, he has made exceptional scientific contributions in these two areas, with great visibility and impact. Eduard Batlle's lab conducts frontier research to understand the relationship between stem cells and cancer in the intestine. Technically, our approach is comprehensive; we combine in vitro cell models and bioinformatics with the generation and analysis of genetically modified mice. Conceptually, our research stands at the confluence of stem cell and cancer biology with an edge in translational oncology. Over the past few years, Eduard Batlle's lab has devoted a large effort to understand the determinants of metastatic dissemination in CRC. Our findings have been very influential in both fields.
