Dr Edmond Fernandes has been made an Associate of the Madras Diabetic Research Foundation (MDRF). MDRF is the ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) advanced centre for genomics of type 2 Diabetes and the Centre for Education, International Diabetes Federation.

Dr Edmond would be pursuing efforts related to non communicable diseases (NCDs) and around Mangalore. Dissemination of scientific literature with regard to Non communicable diseases (NCDs) and to work towards control of non communicable diseases in the region will be a priority. He is also a faculty at the MDRF-UAB-FIU International Seminar hosted by Fogarty International Division of the National Institutes of Health.

Madras Diabetic Research Foundation is championed by Padmashri Dr V Mohan, who also leads efforts for Dr Mohan’s diabetic Speciality Centre in Chennai, which is a WHO Collaborating Centre for NCDs in India.

At present, Dr Edmond Fernandes is Chief Executive, Center for Health and Development and a Postgraduate in Community Medicine at Yenepoya University, Mangalore. He is currently editing a massive reference volume with Professor Dr R P Pai, department of community medicine, Yenepoya University, on ‘Social Accountability of Medical Schools – Global Perspectives.
