Dr. Earnest Alexander, Pharm.D., FCCM is the Assistant Director, Clinical Pharmacy Services for Tampa General Hospital’s Department of Pharmacy Services. He is the Program Director for the PGY2 Critical Care Residency at Tampa General. He also holds faculty appointments with local Colleges of Pharmacy.

Alexander Pharm.D. from Howard University in Washington, DC, he completed a PGY1 Residency at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He later completed a PGY2 Residency in Critical Care/Nutrition Support with the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Memphis, Tennessee and served as Critical Care Pharmacotherapy Specialist at Tampa General for a number of years before transitioning to his current position.

Alexander current responsibilities involve shaping the departmental clinical service goals and direction. He has improved patient care through a number of drug therapy related protocols/guidelines. As a clinical researcher, he contributes to medical literature through active publication and peer reviewer for several journals (e.g., Critical Care Medicine, and Pharmacotherapy). Additionally, he co-edits AACN Advanced Critical Care journal’s drug column. His areas of research focus include pharmacy practice expansion, drug disposition and nutrition support of critically ill patients, sedation/analgesia in the ICU. He is an active member of ASHP, Vizient, and SCCM. He is also a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine.
