Dulce Brito graduated in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon in 1982. She specialized in internal medicine, intensive care medicine, and cardiology, having done most of her learning and training in these areas at the University Hospital of Santa Maria (Lisbon, Portugal). Later, she developed her Ph.D. thesis in the area of ​​Cardiomyopathies at the same Faculty, acquiring a Doctor's degree (PhD.) in 2007. Since then she has been Invited Assistant Professor of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon.

Since 2006, she has been a cardiology consultant, and coordinator of the Myocardial Diseases Unit, and the Inpatient Sector of the Cardiology Service of the University Hospital of Santa Maria, CHLN. The Unit he coordinates is currently a clinical service focused on obtaining the best results for patients, through a major contribution to high-quality clinical research. She is also the coordinator of the Heart Failure Program at the Department of Cardiology, CHLN.

She is a Researcher at the Cardiovascular Center of the University of Lisbon (CCUL) and a Research Team Leader in the areas of Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathies. To date, she has participated in over 17 international clinical studies in these fields, many of them therapeutic research in the area of ​​Heart Failure, usually as Principal Investigator (PI) of her center.

At the Portuguese Society of Cardiology (SPC), she successively held various positions from 1997 to 2017. She coordinated the Study Group on Cardiovascular Therapy (1997-1999) and the Study Group on Myocardial and Pericardium Diseases (2009-2013), creating the first national registry for Myocardial Diseases. She was Secretary-General of the SPC (2007-2009), Vice-President (2013-2015), and President of the Portuguese Congress of Cardiology (2015). She is currently a member of the Center for the Study of Heart Failure at the SPC (2015-2017), a member of the executive committee of the Portuguese Registry of Hypertrophic Myocardiopathy, and a National Coordinator of the Portuguese Registry of Myocarditis.

He has been a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) since 2008, a member of the Working Group on Myocardial and Pericardial Diseases, and a Gold Member of the Heart Failure Association (HFA). He was a member of the HFA National Societies Core (2011-2014) and a member of the Scientific Committee of the ESC Congress Program (2014-2016). She is part of the Editorial Board of the Portuguese Journal of Cardiology and is a reviewer for several national and international journals. She has published 90 scientific articles (full papers), presented more than 130 research papers (published abstracts), and was an invited lecturer or moderator in more than 280 national and international scientific meetings.
