Drew B. Schembre, MD, FASGE, FACG, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and advanced interventional endoscopist serving as Medical Director of Digestive Health Services at John Muir Health. With decades of experience in therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy, Dr. Schembre specializes in advanced procedures including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), deep enteroscopy, and peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM). Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to advancing innovative endoscopic technologies, improving the quality of digestive healthcare, and developing multidisciplinary models for the management of complex gastrointestinal disorders.
Dr. Schembre earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now Rutgers New Jersey Medical School), followed by an Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Utah. He completed advanced fellowship training in therapeutic endoscopy at Columbia University Medical Center. An active clinical investigator, educator, and inventor, Dr. Schembre has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributed to the development of novel endoscopic devices, and served in leadership roles within national gastroenterology societies. His commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and physician education continues to shape the future of advanced endoscopy and digestive disease care.
