Dr. Ryan J. Wakim MD

Ryan Wakim, MD, is an addiction psychiatrist who, since graduating from his residency program as Chief Resident, has worked to expand access to mental health care, addiction, and otherwise across his home state of West Virginia. He obtained his medical degree from West Virginia University after completing his bachelor’s in science from Wheeling Jesuit University.

Currently, Dr. Wakim sits as the President and CEO of his own medical corporation, overseeing three private practices, and consulting with numerous hospital systems and criminal justice programs to develop standards of care rooted in evidence-based medicine, advancing mental health treatment within the region. He has given several presentations and co-authored a publication on addiction, teaches at a local university in the physician assistant program, and takes part in medical executive board meetings, contract negotiations, and presently sits on Wheeling Jesuit’s Alumni Council.

As a board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Wakim specializes in human interaction, complex problem solving, and both cognitive and behavioral theories. These skills are key assets in establishing safety in the workplace, coaching all team members to reach their highest potential, and understanding how to establish valuable and meaningful relationships with patients through effective communication.
