Dr. Abrahams was appointed as a Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge in February 2004, following a Fellowship in Pain Medicine based at St Bartholomew's in London. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine.

Dr. Abrahams was a Lead Clinician for the Pain Service at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge for many years but, in 2017, he was appointed as Clinical Director of Musculoskeletal Services at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with responsibility for the management of Trauma & Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Pain Services in Cambridge. He maintains a significant clinical role, based predominately at the NHS Pain Service at CUH, but also runs a clinic along with consultant colleagues in pain and palliative medicine at the local Hospice for patients with intractable cancer pain.

Dr. Abrahams manages all chronic pain conditions in his clinical practice but has a particular interest in the management of spinal pain conditions, including neck and back pain, as well as muscular and nerve pain conditions associated with spinal pathology. He runs the neuromodulation service at Cambridge along with colleagues in Pain Medicine and Neurosurgery, and regularly inserts spinal cord stimulator devices for patients with severe nerve pain conditions.

Dr. Abrahams is highly experienced in interventional techniques for the management of chronic pain conditions but uses these, when appropriate, in a holistic approach in conjunction with instruction in pain management techniques, working closely with specialist physiotherapists and colleagues to offer a comprehensive pain service.
