Dr. Bell is the Associate Executive Director and Managing Director, Safe Medical Care, for the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA). His role is to provide leadership, management, and strategic direction to the Association, as well as to oversee the departments of Communications, Medical Care Analytics, Practice Improvement, and Safety Programs Management. Dr. Bell started working at the CMPA in the fall of 1993. In 2004 he became Managing Director of the CMPA’s Physician Services Group where he managed Physician Consulting Services, and Membership and Contact Centre Services. In 2008 he was appointed to the position of Managing Director, Risk Management Services, which was expanded in June of 2012 to Risk Management and Communication Services. In 2009 he also assumed the position of Associate Executive Director. Dr. Bell obtained his MD in 1980 from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario. He did his internship and residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at McGill University. In 1985 he did a further year of training in urogynecology at McMaster University. He then moved to Ottawa in 1986, where he joined the active staff at the Ottawa General Hospital.
