Doris Hexsel MD

Doris Hexsel, MD is a Board Certified Dermatologist by the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, practicing in Brazil since 1982. She is the Medical Director of the Hexsel Dermatologic Clinics, located in Porto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, distinguished as one of the best in cosmetic dermatology, delivering safe and state-of-the-art treatments for national and international patients.

Dr. Hexsel has extensive experience in all areas of dermatology, with a particular interest in cosmetic dermatology, where she became an internationally recognized leader in the studies of cellulite. In 1997, she developed a surgical treatment for this condition. Furthermore, her studies in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) have brought invaluable knowledge to the field. Her expertise also includes facial rejuvenation and skin resurfacing techniques, including chemical peelings and lasers, and mastering techniques for applying botulinum toxins, fillers and, and treating stretch marks, melasma, photoaging, solar lentigines, hyperhidrosis, and seborrheic dermatitis, among others.

Dr. Hexsel graduated from the Passo Fundo University School of Medicine, in Brazil – where she was later appointed as Professor of Dermatology (1989 – 1999) – and carries post-graduation training in Dermatology from the Health Center of the Health Secretary of State of Rio Grande do Sul. Her most recent academic role was as Instructor of the Department of Dermatology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (2009 – 2015).

She is also the Principal Investigator of the Brazilian Center for Studies in Dermatology, in Porto Alegre, and this capacity participated in more than 50 clinical trials in the dermatologic and cosmetic dermatology fields until December 2021. As a result of her reputation, Dr. Hexsel’s presence is highly sought as a speaker, and she has delivered more than 160 lectures and courses at congresses and dermatologic meetings around the world in the last 5 years. She is also the editor of six medical books and the main author of more than 160 publications in the world’s most important dermatology journals and books.

Dr. Hexsel has professional affiliations and is an active member of some of the most prestigious dermatological societies in the world, including the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, – where she was the first Brazilian doctor to receive the President’s Award – the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, the Brazilian Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and the International Society for Dermatologic Surgery. In October 2017, she was key keynote speaker at the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery meeting in Chicago, delivering the prestigious “Lawrence Field Lectureship”. During 2014, she was President of the Brazilian Congress of Dermatologic Surgery.
