Doreen Cantrell CBE, FRS, FRSE, FMedSci, is a scientist and Professor of Cellular Immunology at the University of Dundee. She researches the development and activation T lymphocytes, which are key to the understanding the immune response. Doreen initially planned to study Environmental Science at University College of Wales in Aberystwyth, however after her first semester she discovered her passion for immunology and switched to a Zoology degree, which she completed in 1979, graduating with first class honours. Following this, Doreen decided to pursue a PhD in Immunology in the Cancer Research Campaign Laboratories in Nottingham. After completing her PhD, she held two postdoctoral fellowships: one at Dartmouth College in the USA and one at the London Research Institute (LRI) of Cancer Research UK, where she would later establish her own research group in 1987.
