Dr. McCree’s work has varied, from mentoring postdoctoral fellows to leading projects focused on measuring disparities in HIV and STIs in the United States and has resulted in the development of effective HIV prevention strategies for women and men who experience high risk for infection, HIV testing strategies for African American women and men who have sex with men, behavioral interventions for heterosexually active African American men, HPV education and diagnosis strategies, STI/HIV prevention for long-haul truckers, and development of training materials to improve the ability of pharmacists to counsel patients about HIV and other STIs. In her final CDC role, Dr. McCree led NCHHSTP in understanding and implementing cutting-edge scientific approaches to health equity measurement, programmatic implementation, and policy. She brought unyielding focus and passion to improving the lives of millions of Americans and was an exceptionally thoughtful advisor. One of her most lasting CDC legacies is her work as a formal mentor for postdoctoral fellows through the Division of HIV Prevention in Communities of Color Postdoctoral Fellowship and the NCHHSTP Health Equity Postdoctoral Fellowship programs and professional mentor to staff and colleagues.
