Donald M. Hilty, M.D., is a scholar in education, mood disorders, technology applied to clinical practice, and mentoring of trainees and faculty at the University of California Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Hilty received his medical school education at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (1991). He trained in psychiatry at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco (1995). He has worked at UC Davis in Psychiatry & Behavior Sciences (1995-, now Professor & Vice-chair of Faculty Development), at the Center for Health & Technology 1996-, Director of Telepsychiatry) and in the School of Medicine (2007-, Director of the Rural Program in Medical Education). Dr. Hilty's research involves public health, psychiatric and medical facilities in urban and rural settings. His studies include pharmacologic, psychosocial and service interventions for patients with mood disorders, including clinical trials. Dr. Hilty has a broad range of educational expertise. He primarily helps primary care physicians, specialists, and trainees treat patients in rural settings, by consulting, teaching on algorithms for management of mental disorders, and development of curricula. He is the Director of Rural-PRIME, a School of Medicine program educating trainees and faculty on the care of the rural underserved. He also serves as Chair of the Admissions Committee in the School.
