Donald B. Reid, MD, FRCS is a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon in the NHS, Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK. He attended The University, Glasgow obtaining his MB ChB in 1983 and became Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1987. He started working in vascular surgery in 1987 and completed his MD thesis in1991 on the effects of blood viscosity in patients with peripheral arterial disease. From 1995-1996 he was Cardiovascular Fellow to Dr. Diethrich at the Arizona Heart Institute, USA where endovascular surgery was being pioneered in the states. Research and clinical interests of carotid angioplasty and stenting, and intravascular ultrasound guidance of endovascular treatment began here. Following this fellowship, he was appointed as the first endovascular surgeon in the UK. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Endovascular Therapy and is the President-Elect of the International Society of Endovascular Specialists. At The Edinburgh Clinic, Scotland he has set up the first UK program for treating patients with multiple sclerosis who have chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency by venoplasty. He is also the Honorary Secretary of The Surgical Travellers.
