Dr. Donald Adam qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 1990 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1995. He undertook a period of research examining blood coagulation in aortic aneurysm repair for which he was awarded a higher degree (MD) by the University of Edinburgh.

He trained in Vascular and Endovascular surgery in Edinburgh, Leicester and Adelaide where he worked with Dr John Anderson who pioneered fenestrated stent-grafting for complex aortic aneurysms. He was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Vascular Surgery at the University of Birmingham and Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust in February 2004. He is an Honorary Consultant Vascular Surgeon at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and is a member of the Regional Thoracic Aortic Multidisciplinary Team.

Dr. Donald practises exclusively as a vascular and endovascular surgeon and offers the full range of treatment options (medical management, endovascular treatment and open surgery) for patients with arterial and venous disease. He has a specialist interest in the management of aortic aneurysms and aorto-iliac occlusive disease. He is a European mentor for fenestrated and branched stent-grafting for complex abdominal and thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms and has performed/supervised over 120 fenestrated and thoraco-abdominal branch stent-graft procedures. He was the first clinician in Europe to use Cook Medical’s pre-loaded fenestrated aortic stent-graft, and was the first in the world to use an off-the-shelf branch stent-graft to repair an emergency thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysm.
