Prof. Domenico Mavilio obtained his M.D. degree and completed his residency program in Internal Medicine/Lung Diseases in 2002 at the Medical School of Genoa University, Italy. He then acquired his Ph.D. degree in Clinical and Experimental Immunology in 2007 by attending a joint Ph.D. program between the University of Genoa and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland, USA. He was then appointed as Research Fellow heading the “Innate Immune Section” of the Laboratory of Immuno-regulation of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

In January 2008, Dr. Mavilio was employed by Humanitas Research Hospital as Principal Investigator and Head of the Unit of Clinical and Experimental Immunology, where he coordinates a team of physicians and researchers involved in performing research programs of translational human immunology. Currently, Dr. Mavilio is also an Associate Professor at the Department of Medical Biotechnologies and Translational Medicine (BIOMETRA) of the Medical School of Milan University.
