Dr. Dmitry Tuder was born in Kiev, Ukraine, and immigrated to the United States in 1990. He earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology magna cum laude from Towson State University in Towson, Maryland in 1995. He earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland in 2000. Dr. Tuder completed his Residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas in 2005 followed by a Hand Surgery Fellowship at The Hand Center of San Antonio in 2006. He has earned numerous academic honors as well as seven military medals recognizing his outstanding service. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at USUHS and has published and presented his research on multiple occasions.

Beyond his impressive academic background, Dr. Tuder has over eleven years of experience as a hand and upper extremity orthopedic surgeon. Dr. Tuder proudly served in the United States Air Force for over 20 years. He continues to serve in the US Air Force Reserves and remains on staff at the San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he was former Chief of Hand and Reconstructive Surgery. In 2010 Maj Dmitry Tuder, Chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Services at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas assembled a team of civilian and military surgeons and specialists who performed the first female hand transplant in the U.S. and the-first hand transplant at Wilford Hall Medical Center. Dr. Tuder is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at USUHS and has published his research in multiple medical journals.
