Dr. Diva R. Salomao is a Professor of Pathology at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Salomao received her medical degree from the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, in Brazil, where she also completed a residency in anatomic pathology and a fellowship in surgical pathology at the National Cancer Institute in Rio De Janeiro. Dr. Salomão proceeded to finish her AP/CP residency and surgical pathology fellowship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in cytopathology at the University of Iowa, where she had the opportunity to work at the F. C. Blodi Eye Pathology Laboratory, being mentored by Robert Folberg, M.D.

Dr. Salomao's clinical interests focus on ophthalmic pathology and cytopathology with an emphasis on fine-needle aspiration and neoplasms of the eye and periocular tissues. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and a number of book chapters and abstracts. She is a dedicated educator, with great participation in the education of our trainees at DLMP and trainees in the Ophthalmology Department. She was the surgical pathology fellowship program director from 2009–2015, and still plays a role on a number of education-related committees. In 2003, she was named Teacher of the Year in Laboratory Medicine and Pathology by the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education.
