Dr. Dionisios Vrochides, MD, Ph.D., FACS, FRCSC is board certified in general surgery and specializes in liver and pancreatic cancers and diseases. He serves as vice-chair of Quality and Outcomes for Atrium Health’s Department of Surgery, director of clinical research for the Division of HPB Surgery (diseases of the liver, pancreas, bile duct, and gallbladder), and program associate director of the Robotic HPB Surgery Fellowship. Additionally, he is president of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), USA Chapter.

He is one of the most experienced surgeons in the US with liver molding by parenchymal partitioning or ex vivo techniques for otherwise unresectable cancer. Furthermore, he has performed more than 300 robotic index liver and pancreas operations.

Dr. Vrochides has won numerous awards, including the Humanism & Excellence in Medicine Award from the Gold’s Foundation and both the Physician of the Quarter Award and the Teresa Flippo Morton Mentor Award from Carolinas Medical Center. He spearheaded the Carolinas Medical Center accreditation as the first ERAS Center of Excellence in the US.

He received his medical degree at Aristotle University and completed his residency at Brown University. He followed that with a fellowship at McGill University.

Dr. Vrochides received an implementation grant from ERAS USA Chapter to find pathways that eliminate variation in care and a research grant from the Ernest & Merilyn Avrith Foundation for clinical outcomes research after liver augmentation strategies and major HPB vascular resections. Additionally, he was awarded a virtual reality platform development grant from the Hearst Foundation for patient-reported outcomes and analytics.

He has been involved in several research projects, including advanced surgical analytics, artificial intelligence research for liver and pancreas diseases, robotics, and extreme resectional liver surgery.
