Dimitrios Kontis is a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Multidisciplinary Mental Health Hospital of Attica, which is a public hospital of the Greek National Health Service and the largest provider of Inpatient and Outpatient mental health services in Greece. He studied medicine at the University of Athens Medical School (1990-1996). During 1998-2003, he was trained in adult psychiatry at the Psychiatric Hospital of Attica. He received his PhD degree (animal models) in 2005 (Department of Psychiatry, Athens University Medical School). He had been a visiting research fellow at the Department of Psychology, Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College, London (2011-2014). During 2006-2007 and 2010-2011, he completed two research fellowships at the Institute of Psychiatry, London (Professors Robin Murray & Til Wykes) on Neuroimaging in Psychiatry and Cognitive Remediation of Schizophrenia.

Kontis is a co-author of 25 papers in international peer-reviewed medical journals, which have already received more than 1000 citations, and 15 papers in Greek journals. He has also contributed to more than 100 papers that have been published in international and Greek conferences. He has written one chapter in an international book (Springer) and one chapter in a Greek book entitled "Psychology for the Physician." The John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation and the Bodossakis Foundation have supported his work on cognition in schizophrenia. He has received one poster award from the International Society of Neurobiology and Clinical Psychopharmacology (2009) and three research awards from the Hellenic Psychiatric Association (2002, 2004, 2023). His research interests are schizophrenia, cognition, psychogeriatrics, mood, anxiety disorders, and public health.
