Dilys After studying Biochemistry at the University of Edinburgh, Dr Dilys Freeman undertook her PhD in industry at Glaxo Group Research in Middlesex. Postdoctoral positions in Glasgow and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas were followed by her first academic appointment in Biological Science at the University of Durham. Dilys joined the University of Glasgow in 1999. Dr Freeman's early research was in the field of cardiovascular disease in particular lipid and lipoprotein metabolism.

She studied cholesteryl ester transfer protein and its role in high density lipoprotein metabolism as well as the genetic regulation of plasma high density lipoprotein and low density lipoprotein levels. Dilys has been involved in the analysis of the West of Scotland Coronary Prevention Study (WOSCOPS), in particular the influence of inflammation, statins and genetics on the aetiology of type 2 diabetes. Her current research is in the field of metabolism in diabetes and also in pregnancy.
