Dr. Diana Peckys received a Ph.D. in neurosciences in 1998 at the University of Marburg in Germany. Till 1999 she was a post-doc at the department of psychiatry at the University of Freiburg, Germany, Within that period, she collaborated also with Prof. Yasmin Hurd from the psychiatry department of the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. From 2000 – 2004, she worked as software system designer for Philips Medical Systems in the Netherlands. In 2005, she started a new position as a postdoctoral researcher, in association with the CEB, in the Molecular-Scale Engineering and Nanoscale Technologies (MENT) Research Group of Pof. Michael Simpson at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Her supervisor was Timothy McKnight of ORNL. She developed chemical strategies for the bio-functionalization of carbon nanofiber arrays used for transfection of mamalian cultured cells.

Since 2007 she is also involved in the development of liquid scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), a novel technique for the imaging of gold tagged cells in liquid with nanometer resolution.
