Diana Castro, MD, did her Medical School at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia, did her residency in General Pediatrics at SUNY Downstate, residency in child neurology, and fellowship in neuromuscular medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas. Her research interests include peripheral neuropathies (CMT, GBS, and CIDP) in children, as well as Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy(DMD). She is the principal investigator of several research protocols targeting SMA and DMD. Dr. Castro was an important part of the research that preceded the approval of the first FDA-approved medication to treat SMA. After the approval of this medication, Dr. Castro helped build the program for the administration of this medication at Children’s Health.
