Dhirendra K Simanshu pre- and post-doctoral training have been in the area of biochemistry, biophysics and structural biology, during which he have gained extensive experience in protein expression, purification, biochemical and biophysical characterization and structural analysis by X-ray crystallography.

Dhirendra K Simanshu postdoctoral research has focused on gaining structural and mechanistic insights on key players involved in small RNA-mediated gene regulation, signaling lipid transfer proteins and bacterial toxin-antitoxin systems. During pre- and post-doctoral training in structural biology, He solved more than 60 different co-crystal structures of protein-protein, protein-DNA, protein-RNA, protein-lipid and protein-small molecules complexes.
