Derik L. Davis M.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology & Nuclear Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Davis is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist who specializes in musculoskeletal imaging for several hospitals and outpatient facilities within the University of Maryland Medical System. His current clinical practice includes diagnostic imaging for musculoskeletal trauma, sports medicine, bone, and soft tissue disorders, osteoporosis, musculoskeletal tumors, and arthritis. Dr. Davis also provides direct patient care for image-guided joint procedures, bone and soft tissue tumor biopsy, and musculoskeletal ultrasound.
Dr. Davis has primary clinical research interests focusing on (1) the relationship between skeletal muscle quality and shoulder dysfunction in older adults, as well as (2) the association among upper extremity dysfunction, aging and functional outcomes. Dr. Davis also has additional clinical research interests pertaining to musculoskeletal trauma, clinical history for imaging examinations, sports medicine, and musculoskeletal tumors. He has been affiliated with the University of Maryland Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center since 2015 and is a member of the University of Maryland Center for Research on Aging.
Dr. Davis is an active participant in programs for medical students and resident education. He is the Course Director of the Musculoskeletal Radiology Elective for third and fourth-year medical students, and he serves also as a faculty member for first and second-year medical student courses. He is a member of his department’s Medical Student Education Committee and serves as the MRI Fellowship Director at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Dr. Davis has co-authored over 55 peer-reviewed abstracts and publications. He serves as a reviewer for several journals and the American Roentgen Ray Society Scientific Program Subcommittee-Musculoskeletal Section. Dr. Davis is a member of the Editorial Board for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, a premier journal in the fields of orthopedics and sports medicine.
