Deogratias is a Consultant Pediatrician, Honorary Lecturer and PhD candidate in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Mulago Hospital/ Makerere University Kampala. His additional responsibility is the Assistant Clinical head in the Directorate, Coordinator MMED Haematology Oncology Course and Coordinator MBCHB V course. He has had 10 years of experience in neonatal and child health (5 years up-country and 5 years in an urban setting). He is an ETAT+ trainer (Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment in the first 24 hrs) and has participated in the introduction of ETAT+ in Uganda with the support of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Makerere University/Ministry of Health, Uganda and in partnership with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, UK.

Over the last 5 years, He has been involved in the care, treatment and research of children with sickle cell disease. He has recently completed sub-speciality training in Paediatric Haematology and Oncology at Uganda Cancer Institute and Mulago National Referral Hospital Kampala. His PhD in neurology is on stroke in children with sickle cell anaemia. The programme is part of the larger MEPI-Neuro-linked NIH support for developing leaders in neurology in Uganda. He is currently in my final year.
