Professor Dennis McDermott is the Associate Head of Faculty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Flinders University. He is also the Director of the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health and Well-Being, Adelaide. A Koori man, his mother’s family are from Gadigal land (inner Sydney) with connections to Gamilaroi country (north-west NSW). Dennis is a psychologist, academic and poet.

He leads research and scholarship and develops mechanisms to increase Indigenous student recruitment and retention, to enhance Indigenous researcher capacity and to strengthen the capability of both Indigenous and Non-Indigenous components of the Indigenous health workforce in the service of improved Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and well-being. He is a key participant in the current expansion of research, courses and topics, and Indigenous staff and student recruitment, within Indigenous health programmes at Flinders.
