Dennis D. Fernandes, PhD. is the Market Access Associate at Sanofi Pasteur, North york, Ontario, Canada. His passion for research in the life sciences originated from my undergraduate research experiences and continued into his Ph.D. studies. His research focused on developing, designing, and performing fluorescence experiments to assess the size, structure, and function of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and their attendant G proteins, in response to different drug molecules. GPCRs are a sub-group of the protein superfamily of seven-transmembrane eukaryotic receptors, which include those found in the cardiovascular, neuronal, and visual systems. GPCRs are the target for up to 40% of therapeutics directed toward treating a large number of ailments, including neurodegenerative disorders and cardiovascular disease. GPCRs regulate many important downstream cellular signaling pathways, which are activated by a diverse range of intracellular and extracellular ligands/drugs.
