Denise Fitzgerald is a Regenerative Neuroimmunology research program that investigates immune function in inflammatory and demyelinating diseases. Her main programmers of research focus on how immune cells and signals influence the regeneration of myelin in the Central Nervous System. We have a particular interest in chronic demyelinating diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis and aim to develop completely novel regenerative therapeutics. We also conduct research on immune-mediated demyelination to understand immune function in disease pathogenesis. Her work utilizes a wide range of in vitro, ex vivo, in vivo, and clinical experimental models as well as biobanks. With these models, we investigate fundamental biology and translate our discoveries to the setting of human disease.
