Dr Dena K. Hubbard is a neonatologist at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. She spent the first nine years of her career in community practice and has recently returned to academics to pursue her passions of physician wellness, advocacy, education, and leadership. Dr Hubbard currently serves on the Kansas AAP Board of Directors and is Chair of the Public Policy Committee. She is founding board member and immediate past president of the District VI Association of Neonatologists. She is active in the AAP Section on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and founding co-chair for the AAP Neonatal-Perinatal Section Mid-career neonatologists (MIDCAN) group. Clinical interests include care of extremely low birth weight infants, family centred care, late preterm infants, and neonatal abstinence syndrome. Academic interests include promoting wellness for health care professionals, participating in AAP advocacy and health policy activities, providing continuing education of neonatal providers, and developing leadership skills. She lives in Lee’s Summit, MO with her husband Adam, and daughters Emily and Reese, both of whom were late preterm infants.
