Demosthenes (demos) Gabriel Papamatheakis MD

Demosthenes (Demos) Papamatheakis, MD, is a board-certified pulmonologist and intensive care specialist. His clinical interests include pulmonary vascular disease, with a focus on pulmonary arterial hypertension, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, and critical care medicine.

His research interests are focused on pulmonary vascular reactivity as well as the natural history and treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension and its connections with sleep-disordered breathing like sleep apnea. Dr. Papamatheakis' research has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications. He also participates in multiple clinical trials looking at new medications geared toward pulmonary arterial hypertension treatment.

As an associate professor of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Papamatheakis has a strong interest in medical education and is the director of the pulmonary course for second-year medical students. He also actively participates in multiple teaching activities geared towards resident and fellow training.

Dr. Papamatheakis completed a clinical research fellowship at Université de Montréal in Canada, his internal medicine residency training at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and his pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship training at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Crete School of Medicine in Greece. He is board-certified in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine.
