Dr Deepak Kalaskar has a multidisciplinary background in engineering, chemistry and biology. He worked previously as Research and Development Scientist with the German multinational company, BASF coatings Pvt Ltd. Due to his interests in biological coatings; he pursued PhD in the field of Biomedical Materials from the University of Manchester, UK.

Following his PhD, he worked at various universities in UK and Belgium on number of developmental research projects which include high throughput culture for Embryonic Stem cells as a part of North West Stem cell Consortium, UK. Nanomaterials coatings for orthopaedic implants, protein based micro and nano particles for drug delivery applications (at Nano science Condense Matter Lab, Belgium), 3D printing of cells using inject printing, osteochondral plug for knee repair (at ARUK Tissue Engineering Center, Newcastle). He has extensive collaborations with industry and academia to develop novel medical devices and implants.

His research group has received research funding from RCUK (EPSRC, MRC-AMR), various UK based charities and industries. He has collaborative partners at international institutions in UK, Belgium, Turkey, India, Colombia and Kazakhstan. He has contributed over 6 invited book chapters for internationally reputed publishers and he is also an editor of 3 books in the field of 3D Printing in Medicine (Elsevier), Nanomedicine (Open Press) and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (UCL Press).
