Dr. Stiffler is a certified nurse-midwife and has practiced full scope midwifery care for over 25 years prior to coming into academia. Dr. Stiffler primarily teaches courses in women's health, evidence-based research and informatics. She mentors students in the BSN, MSN, DNP, and PhD programs. Dr. Stiffler's expertise is in the scholarship of teaching of which online learning and interactive curriculum are two facets. Dr. Stiffler recently became certified in online teaching. Her area of research is in various aspects of qualitative research. Dr. Stiffler has conducted research on mothers' and daughters' communication about sexuality issues and on mothers' and daughters' perceptions of the mothers' parenting following diagnosis of breast cancer in the mother. She also performs meta-syntheses and meta-aggregation of qualitative data, a way of combining data from multiple sources to strengthen the overall results. Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPEP) is another area of interest for Dr. Stiffler, and she was invited to serve as a co-investigator on a large HRSA grant related to IPE. She has been responsible for clinical site development, assessment, and intervention along with qualitative evaluation.
