Dawn Pewitt, O.D., F.A.A.O, has been with Triad Eye Institute since 2016. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997. She is Anterior Segment Laser certified. Dr. Pewitt became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 1998. After completing her residency at the VA in Fayetteville, Arkansas, she worked at the VA Medical Center in San Diego for over 18 years. While with the VA, she created an optometric residency program with 5 residents; she was the residency coordinator from 2006 through 2016. During this time she held faculty appointments with the University of San Diego School of Medicine and with the Southern California College of Optometry.
Dr. Pewitt has been a member of the American Optometric Association since 1993. The AOA awarded her the Young Optometrist of the Year for California in 2006. She was a member of the California Optometric Association and the San Diego Optometry Society from 1998 through 2016. Dr. Pewitt was on the San Diego Optometry Society board for 15 years, including 2-years as President in 2006 & 2007. She has been on several committees for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. Since 1999, she has participated in the Parts I and II Committees and Councils, the Part III Clinical Skills examination, and the CPDO (Continuing Professional Development in Optometry) Committee and Council.
