Dawn Birdsell PhD

Dawn Nice Birdsell is a Senior Research Scientist and an Associate Director of the Training and Education Core at Northern Arizona University’s Pathogen and Microbiome Institute (PMI).

As a scientist, her research primarily is focused on developing tools to combat microbial agents that cause human diseases. Tools include vaccine development and rapid detection systems for diagnostics.

As an Associate Director, she designs and directs the PMI undergraduate research program. This is a training program structured to continuously build workforce capacity and lay down foundational skills essential for career success.
