Dr. David S. Vitale, MD, is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist and Director of the Interventional Endoscopy Center at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he provides expert clinical care and leadership in the management of complex gastrointestinal, pancreatic, and biliary diseases in children. He also serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Dr. Vitale’s clinical expertise centers on advanced pediatric endoscopic techniques, including pediatric endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE), and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). These specialized procedures enable less invasive diagnosis and treatment of a range of gastrointestinal and pancreaticobiliary conditions that affect children. As part of Cincinnati Children’s Pancreas Care Center, he provides multidisciplinary care tailored to each child’s needs.

Dr. Vitale completed his medical degree at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and went on to complete a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He trained in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Cincinnati Children’s and then pursued an Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. He holds board certifications in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Pediatric Gastroenterology.

His research focuses on pediatric advanced endoscopic procedure safety and outcomes, as well as investigations into the causes and clinical progression of pediatric pancreatitis, aiming to improve understanding and care in these challenging conditions. Dr. Vitale is also recognized for his leadership within Cincinnati Children’s and was listed among Cincinnati Magazine’s “Top Doctors” for Pediatric Gastroenterology.
