David was recently appointed Professor of Anatomy at the College. His primary role is to support the development and delivery of teaching and examination of surgical anatomy within the College's wide range of surgical education activities.
A medical graduate of the University of St Andrews, he's held a range of surgical training posts in Nottingham and Edinburgh. These posts allowed him to gain experience in a number of surgical specialties, mainly in academic units, and obtain the FRCS Ed. Since 1979 he has been lecturing in clinical anatomy at the University of St Andrews, where he also serves as Pro Dean of Medicine.
This academic and clinical experience has given him a deep interest in integrating medical sciences and clinical practice at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Since his appointment as a College Examiner in 1989, he has been extensively involved with surgical anatomy teaching and examining, both in the College and also in relation to the development of the Intercollegiate MRCS. He serves on the College Examinations Committee and the Intercollegiate Paper Panel, Syllabus and Quality Assurance Committees, as well as having responsibility for the training of College anatomy examiners.
