David Low, MD, is a reconstructive plastic surgeon who specializes in treating deformities that occur at birth or are acquired due to trauma, illness, cancer, or abnormal development. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, he completed his general and plastic surgery training at the University of Pennsylvania under the guidance of cleft giants Don LaRossa and Peter Randall. He is a Professor of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and an Attending Surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. In addition to a busy cleft practice in Philadelphia, he is the medical director of Smiles for Guatemala, a CHOP-based cleft mission. He is perhaps best known for his medical illustrations, having illustrated two recent textbooks of cleft care, Interdisciplinary Cleft Care – Global Perspectives (Plural Publishing) and Global Cleft Care in Low-Resource Settings (Springer).
