David Michael Layfield qualified from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2007. He trained initially in London before moving to Wessex. He was awarded a PhD in Immunobiology and tissue responses to vaccination in 2017 by the University of Southampton. He achieved GMC specialist registration in 2020 in General Surgery with a declared sub-specialty interest in Colorectal Surgery. His post-CCT fellowship placement was in Complex colorectal surgery, inflammatory bowel disease, and intestinal failure at Salford Royal Foundation Trust. He has a specialist interest in Intestinal Failure Surgery and Complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction. In November 2021 he is appointed as a Consultant Intestinal Failure Surgeon in Intestinal Failure Surgery, Complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction, and general colorectal surgery at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
