David L. Levin, MD, Ph.D., grew up primarily in Madison, Wisconsin. However, when given the opportunity, he headed west! Dr. Levin received a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction (biological sciences) from Stanford University and received both his MD and Ph.D. (physiology and pharmacology) degrees from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD).

Dr. Levin completed an internship in internal medicine at UCSD and went on to complete his radiology residency and a one-year fellowship in thoracic imaging at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). Prior to coming to Mayo Clinic in 2006, Dr. Levin was a faculty member at UCSD (1999-2006) and at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School (1996-1999). Since 2007, he has been an Associate Professor, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dr. Levin also maintains a voluntary faculty appointment as Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology at UCSD.

Dr. Levin is involved with all aspects of thoracic imaging but is particularly interested in the evaluation of diffuse lung disease, and the use of non-contrast MR imaging techniques to quantify pulmonary blood flow and lung stiffness in both normal and disease states. He has long-standing research interests in the noninvasive assessment of pulmonary physiology and clinically relevant pathophysiology. Since 2014, Dr. Levin has been a Member-at-Large for the Editorial Board at Proceedings.
