David is Ngati Raukawa and was formerly a resource teacher of Maori studies and language in the Hawkes Bay before he completed his training as a medical practitioner at Middlemore Hospital in South Auckland.
David's main focus is running clinical teaching, Te Reo and Tikanga Maori programmes for Maori health professionals throughout the country. He is also Chairman of Te Ataarangi Educational Trust. David has also published a phrase book of Maori medical terms which was released in February 2006 as a resource for the Maori health sector.
He is currently a General Practitioner in Central Auckland, and Lecturer at the University of Auckland School of Medicine and Health Sciences. David is also Chairperson of Te Ohu Rata o Aotearoa, the Maori Medical Practitioners Association of Aotearoa and a member of Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners.
