David Hussong PhD

Dr. Hussong is the Chief Technical Officer at Eagle. He also served as the chair of the USP Microbiology Expert Committee for the 2015– 2020 cycle. He has been active with USP for over 20 years in various roles. David retired after a 30-year career at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), where he had served in many microbiology positions, culminating as the Associate Director of New Drug Microbiology at CDER. After retirement from FDA, he began consulting for the regulated industry. David previously also was a research microbiologist at the US Department of Agriculture and the US Naval Medical Research Institute.

David earned his Ph.D. in microbiology at the University of Maryland, where he studied environmental microbiology and developed detection methods for Legionella spp. He has about 50 publications covering various topics such as microbial ecology, recovery of Salmonella spp., immunologic detection of Mycobacteria, sterilizing filtration, modern microbiology methods, survival, and recovery of Burkholderia, advanced aseptic filling, and endotoxins testing.
