David Bartels, MD, was born in Munich, Germany, but spent most of his childhood in Williamstown, MA. He graduated from Princeton University in 2006 with a degree in Geosciences and African Studies, with the intention to pursue doctoral training in paleoanthropology. Instead, after a year abroad in Lesotho, Southern Africa working with the Baylor International Pediatric HIV/AIDS Initiative and then two years working at the Harvard Initiative for Global Health on the Global Burden of Disease Study, Dr. Bartels decided to take a different path and attend medical school. He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 2013 before entering Mass General's Anesthesia Residency Program.
