David Heber is an internist, endocrinologist, and a physician nutrition specialist who has been on the School of Medicine and Public Health faculties since 1983 when he founded the Division of Clinical Nutrition in the Department of Medicine. In 1996, he established the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition. Dr. Heber earned his M.D. at Harvard Medical School in 1973 and his Ph.D. at UCLA in 1978. He completed his internship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and his internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.

From 1978 to 1983, he was the Associate Director of the Harbor General Hospital NIH-funded General Clinical Research Center prior to coming to UCLA where he was both Associate Director of the Center for Health Enhancement of the UCLA Medical Center and the first Chief of the Division of Clinical Nutrition.
