David Ginsberg MD

David L. Ginsberg, MD, is Vice-Chair, Clinical Affairs, and Clinical Professor, at the Department of Psychiatry, at the NYU School of Medicine, as well as Chief of the Psychiatry Service at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York, New York.

Dr. Ginsberg graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Subsequently, he obtained his medical degree from Brown Medical School and completed an internship and residency in psychiatry at the New York University Medical School of Medicine in 1994. A Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, he is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as a Diplomate in Psychiatry.

Dr. Ginsberg’s primary focus of interest is in the psychopharmacologic treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, particularly refractory depression and manic depression. He also has expertise in the adverse effects of psychotropic medications, an area in which he has published extensively. Dr. Ginsberg has presented on these topics at scientific meetings both nationally and internationally. He edited a monograph produced with the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) for an international symposium on the pharmacoepidemiologic aspects of postmarketing surveillance of psychiatric drugs. The former Director of the Tisch Hospital ECT Program, Dr. Ginsberg was also a co-investigator in a pivotal study on the use of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) for treatment-resistant depression.

Dr. Ginsberg has served as a contributing writer, section editor, and reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed psychiatric journals and has also been honored as “Teacher of the Year” in the NYU Medical Center Department of Psychiatry Residency Training Program.
