Dr. David Platts is an Associate at Queensland Cardiovascular Group, a Senior Staff Specialist Cardiologist at The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, and an Associate Professor within the School of Medicine, at the University of Queensland. In addition to general cardiology, his clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure, echocardiography, and critical care cardiology.
After graduating from the School of Medicine at the University of Tasmania, Dr. Platts did his physician training at the Royal Hobart Hospital and cardiology advanced training in Hobart and Sydney. He also completed a fellowship year in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. Following this, Dr. Platts did a two-year echocardiography fellowship at King’s College Hospital in London. This cumulated in being awarded a Doctor of Medicine research higher degree from King’s College, the University of London with his research focussing on contrast specific echocardiographic imaging in coronary artery disease.
In 2007, Dr. Platts was appointed as a Cardiologist at The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane, both with the Queensland Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant unit and the Echocardiography Department. Dr. Platts subsequently completed a Doctor of Philosophy through the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Queensland, with the thesis titled “Application of perfluoro microsphere contrast echocardiography – feasibility and interaction with mechanical cardiac support”.
Dr. Platts has an active clinical and research interest in contrast-enhanced echocardiography and imaging of percutaneous short-term and durable long-term mechanical cardiac support devices.
