David E. Wazer MD, FASTRO

David E. Wazer, M.D. is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Brown University. He is a radiation oncologist-in-chief at Rhode Island Hospital, the Miriam Hospital, Newport Hospital, and Women and Infants Hospital. He serves as Director of the Lifespan Cancer Institute.

Dr. Wazer is an internationally recognized expert in the application of new technology in the field of radiation oncology. He has published more than 300 scientific articles, and has authored/edited several books including “Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation”, "Short Course Breast Radiotherapy", and “Image-guided IMRT”. In addition, he is the Co-Editor of “Principles and Practice of Radiation Oncology”, the widely recognized premier textbook of radiation oncology. Dr. Wazer is Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Clinical Oncology and serves as associate editor of the journals Brachytherapy, Frontiers in Radiation Oncology, and Breast Diseases: a Yearbook Quarterly.

Dr. Wazer is board certified in therapeutic radiology by the American Board of Radiology. He earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. On completion of medical school, he performed a research fellowship in neuropharmacology at NYU. He obtained clinical training in internal medicine at Brown University and in radiation oncology at Tufts University. He has held a number of faculty and research positions at Tufts, Brown, and MIT. He has been a member of several national and international advisory committees related to the science and technology of radiation oncology.
