Texas physician David D. Teuscher, MD, was elected second vice president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons(AAOS) Board of Directors at its Annual Meeting in Chicago this week. This begins a four-year term of volunteer service with his presidency of the organization in 2015-2016. Dr. Teuscher is a partner and past president of the Beaumont Bone & Joint Institute. He also serves as a team physician for the Lamar University‘s NCAA athletic teams.

After earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Teuscher completed an internship and residency at the Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio Texas. Dr. Teuscher served in combat Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and completed 13 years of military service in 1993 as the chief of surgery at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. He has been in the private practice of orthopaedic surgery with a specialty interest in sports medicine since 1993. Dr. Teuscher has long been an active member of AAOS, as well as numerous other orthopaedic, medical and governmental volunteer leadership activities. Most recently, he has served on the AAOS Board of Directors and the Board of Councilors (as chair, 2011 to 2012). A 2004 AAOS Leadership Fellow, he has lead and served on numerous Academy project teams, committees and councils.
