Dr. David E. Bernstein, MD, MACG, FAASLD, AGAF, FACP, is a distinguished gastroenterologist and hepatologist at NYU Langone Health, where he serves as Professor of Medicine and Director of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Ambulatory Network on Long Island. He is an internationally recognized expert in liver disease with more than three decades of clinical, academic, and research experience.
Dr. Bernstein specializes in the diagnosis and management of a broad spectrum of liver conditions, including viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver diseases, fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. He works closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide advanced care, including evaluation for liver transplantation and treatment of complex hepatobiliary disorders.
A leading clinical investigator, Dr. Bernstein has served as principal investigator in more than 200 clinical trials and has authored over 300 scientific publications, reviews, and book chapters in gastroenterology and hepatology. His research has contributed significantly to advances in the treatment of liver diseases and the development of new therapeutic approaches.
Beyond his clinical and research work, Dr. Bernstein has played an important role in public health policy and education, serving as a consultant to the New York State Department of Health and helping shape statewide initiatives and guidelines for viral hepatitis care. He is a fellow of multiple leading professional societies and a past president of the New York Gastroenterological Association.
