David Barros Aguirre PhD

David Barros is the Head of Tuberculosis Discovery Performance Unit (TB DPU) @ GlaxoSmithKline Medicines Development Centre in Tres Cantos (DDW), Spain).

David has a background in Medicinal Chemistry, completed his PhD at Loughborough University (UK). He has worked in GSK for the last 15 years, focus first on the discovery of new anti-malarials in collaboration with MMW and then leading discovery and development projects of the GSK’s Tuberculosis Unit. David was the Scientific Coordinator of two consortiums: ORCHID (EU, FP7), focus on the repurposing of b-lactam as anti-tubercular drugs, and anTBiotic (EU, Horizon 2020) which aims to achieve a Poor of Concept for new b-lactams and a novel protein synthesis inhibitor that is currently in FTIM.
